SWIAA American Rescue Plan Technical Assistance Investment - Program for Southwest Indian Farmers and Ranchers

USDA is an equal opportunity provider, lender, and employer

The Overarching Goal of the proposed “American Rescue Plan Technical Assistance Investment (ARPTAI) Program for Southwest Indian Farmers and Ranchers” is to work closely with USDA on delivering targeted technical assistance and training in Native American communities and improving equitable participation of Native farmers and ranchers in USDA programs and services.

Following USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA)’s leadership, this proposed program will provide technical support to agricultural producers in historically underserved Native American communities in the Southwest so that they can launch, grow, sustain, and succeed in their agricultural enterprises. Serving as part of a comprehensive program, the proposed work is designed to effectively bridge the gap between Native American producers and USDA programs and services.

How can you be involved?

Outreach – we will be executing a needs assessment that we hope to distribute throughout Tribal communities with the hope of getting an understanding of what kind of support people need. We would also like to complete outreach events to connect with more people. We would appreciate help distributing the needs assessment, as well as letting us know what outreach events are happening in your community that we can participate in.

Direct Technical Assistance – We will be offering free, one-on-one technical assistance to anyone interested in applying or preparing to apply for a federal grant. We need help connecting with potential organizations and individuals, and making communities aware that this free service exists. Potential services include: business plans, feasibility studies, cooperative formation/development support, market studies, infrastructure development, and more.

In-Community Training Events – We will be coordinating various training events in communities. If your community has a specific need, please let us know and we can tailor a training event specifically to meet your requirements.

In-Community Strategic Planning Meetings – Does your community want support, but are you not sure where to start? We have the resources to help coordinate and host strategic planning meetings in your community to begin a facilitated discussion on priorities, long- and short-term plans, and available resources with key stakeholders. We can provide trained facilitators and educational material based on what your community requires.
